STEP 1 - CURL LASHES

So the first thing I do when starting any eye is curl the lashes. 10 seconds with an eye lash curler.

I have seen so many bad things happen with eyelash curlers. In fact I can tell you a little story from a couple of years ago. We were all back stage, and one top model had run late from walking another show. As soon as she entered back stage she was grabbed and two make-up artists started working on her. Not to mention the three hair stylists desperately yanking at her hair. The main make-up went in for the kill with her trusty eye lash curler. She didn’t let anyone know that’s what she was doing including the model. As she proceeded, the hair stylist bumped her head.  Before anyone knew it the eyelid went into the curler. Without thinking the Make-up artist pressed down on the curler and it got messy.

Let’s just say that model didn’t walk the show or walk for the rest of the week. It was horrifying to witness something that we all get taught is such a no-no. So the moral of the story is always stop everything else that is going on. And never press down on the curler until you have asked the model if it feels comfortable and its ok to press down.

STEP 2 - MASCARA

I then proceed to do the first layer of mascara on the top lashes.

TIP: I use the backside of my thumb as a backboard when applying the mascara. This ensures that no mascara goes anywhere on the eye but the lashes.

STEP 3 - BOTTOM LASHES

Then the bottom lashes. I like to come in at this angle and use the tip of the wand. This makes the lashes a little more clumpy, which I find to be super on trend at the moment.

STEP 4 - APPLY LASHES

Once you feel like the texture of the mascara is even on both of the eyes, it’s now time for the fun part.  The application on the individual lashes.

To recreate this romantic finish I generally start with a long lash on the outside of the eye. Working into a medium lash then a small lash. In this look I also used single lashes. These are more fiddley but I love the result of them.

STEP 5 - APPLY ANOTHER LAYER

I always finish with another layer of mascara. I find this confirms that the false lash joins to the natural lash and finishes off the lashes.

So here is the romantic lash finished.

STEP 6 - LIPS

Now to add some drama to the image I added that red lip (see previous “how to” for instruction.)
